In this paper, the route choice set of taxi trips is examined empirically, using the GPS data of a taxi dispatch center in Shanghai. There are four main types of route choice set generation models, and the k-shortest models are the most widely used. Two types of k-shortest route choice sets are generated - one type has the routes with the shortest distances, and the other has the shortest travel times. The comparison between the route choice set and the observed route is presented in this paper. The results show that the k-shortest choice set generation model works well on taxi trips, and most of the taxi trips follow either the shortest or fastest routes.
