On the condition that high-speed trains will be operated mixed with medium-speed trains in high-speed railways in China, the carrying capacity of high speed railway and other issues related are required to be further studied in quality. In this paper, an overtaking-unit model has been set up. With this model, some main factors that affect the subtraction coefficient and carrying capacity of high speed railway are founded out, and the formulas related are proposed. A case is conducted by taking a certain high speed railway line for example. At last, some suggestions on the organization of trains in the mixed operation mode are presented.
