With the development of the economy, some freeways have been overloaded by vehicles and need to be reconstructed or expanded. In addition, some freeways have been damaged and maintenance work is required. In order to ensure safety on the freeway during the construction period, alleviate traffic jams in work zones, and improve the level of service, it is necessary to carry out a traffic organization scheme design of the work zone. This paper first analyzes the traffic characteristics of the work zone, then studies the traffic organization of the work zone from three aspects: section division, traffic facilities setting, and speed limit. Finally, this paper puts forward the traffic organization scheme in the work zone, which solves the problems of vehicles frequently changing lanes and the number of available lanes being reduced. This scheme is conducive to ensuring traffic safety and improving traffic capacity in the work zone.
