Passenger choice is a crucial factor in determining airports' success or failure. As a developing country, Chinese travelers have their own choice indicators. Application of existing models of passenger choice behavior developed by countries outside of China has not had any effect on passenger choice behavior in China. In this paper, a nested logit model is constructed to predict airport choice in a multiple-airport region and estimated using passenger data from Chinese metropolitan areas. A two level nested logit model with the airport choice at the top level and the access mode choice at the lower level is preferred. The estimation results show that business travelers have higher access time elasticity than leisure travelers, while leisure travelers have higher fare elasticity. In addition, airport access time and passenger experience are of great importance in Chinese airport choice behavior for both business and leisure travelers.
