Two simulations of mixed traffic flow with conventional passenger cars and micro-cars are compared: cellular automata (CA) model and VISSIM. Four hundred meters of urban highway and arterial road both with two lanes are assumed in each case, where an intersection delay is included at the middle of the arterial road. Two kinds of vehicles, conventional car and micro-car are defined. Parameters of the vehicles are set the same as much as possible in the two simulators. Density and traffic flow are output by the simulation. It is confirmed that introduction of micro-car will relieve traffic congestion to some extent by the results from both CA and VISSIM. The results also suggest that VISSIM provides more accurate results for highway, while CA seems more reasonable for arterial road with traffic signal.
