Route marker is a sign directing the route number of a highway, usually in the form of a symbolic shape and color, which are used in guide sign and map by travelers for identifying, navigating, and planning their routes. PR China whole naming and numbering rules of highway and route marker system were established after 2007, when expressway network had been formed. The paper presents a study of drivers’ awareness and acceptance on the national highway route marker based on the result of surveying 500 drivers from four cities. The results indicate that the drivers have less awareness on expressway route numbers than other ordinary highways, and there is a correlation between awareness and acceptance. In addition, it is noted from the survey that the route marker is not well used now in PR China. It is hence to recommend some countermeasures as a result of the study.
