The status of adhesion between asphalt layers affects the development of water damages. Through drilling core investigation of a highway, it is found that there are smoothness between asphalt layers in water damage spots and weakness zone at the bottom of asphalt layers. Based on the hypothesis of the roughness and smoothness between the two asphalt layers, the stress statuses of asphalt pavement under eight different adhesions between layers were calculated by using BISAR 3.0 program. Conclusions are drawn that if there are smoothness in asphalt pavement, the stress and shearing strength would centralize at a point, and water would be prone to filter into the weakness zone, thus deteriorate water damages in asphalt pavement and bring out smoothness between asphalt layers.
