A large number of facts have shown that emergency of congested links in urban traffic network has certain rule. This rule will help us to identify characteristics of the generation, propagation and dissipation of traffic congestion, which can provide some theoretical foundations for the development of reasonable traffic planning and control methods. In this paper, based on the cell transmission model (CTM), a model is proposed to analyze the propagation of traffic flow. The spatial autocorrelation method (SAM) is introduced to analysis the spatial distribution characteristics of congested links by using the average journey velocity (AJV) of links. Numerical results show that the traffic congestion appearance among adjacent or close links is interrelated, and with the increase of traffic demand, this relationship will become more and more obvious.
