In its conversion to a commercial marketplace the space industry faces two challenges — the lack of a stable workforce and outdated management and manufacturing techniques. Both contribute to the high cost of space missions. If the space industry is to be successful in commercializing space operations it must development a new management model that will stabilize the space workforce while streaming management practices. This paper proposes a new management model, the Alliance Model, for space missions based on developing mission specific alliances between academe, government and industry.
