An articulated freight train and track coupled dynamic model is established, and the detailed mechanical model of the articulated connector is presented. Under the coupler compressive force, the train running safety in the tangential line and the sharp curve is analyzed. The results indicate that there is little influence of the coupler force on the dynamic performance of train travelling in a straight line. The curved track can cause the lateral swing angles in the coupler and articulated connector, resulting in the transmission of the longitudinal compressive force to the wheel-rail forces finally. If the coupler force changes from 0 kN to 1500 kN, the wheelset lateral force, derailment coefficient, and wheel-load reduction rate of the articulated bogie may increase by about 40 kN, 0.14, and 0.13 respectively, when the train negotiates the 300 m radius curve at the speed of 70 km/h. Correspondingly, the index values of the traditional bogie have the increases of 29 kN, 0.08, and 0.13 in sequence. For the 1500 kN coupler force, some indices have exceeded the limit values released in the railway standard.
