For a realistic estimation of stresses and strains in the pavement, it is necessary to consider the dynamic normal load transferred from a truck to the pavement. The roughness of the pavement, and driving maneuver influences the dynamic load transferred. This study investigates the role of acceleration for a given pavement roughness profile. The realistic acceleration values considering transmission gear shifting, tractive efforts, and resistance forces for a given road surface profile and truck are required when one is interested in the dynamic load transferred. In this investigation, a commercial vehicle dynamics software, TruckMaker, was used for computing dynamic load transferred prescribing only the target speed from a given starting speed on a pavement having a roughness profile corresponding to Grade A as per ISO:8606 standard. The influence of changes in truck load was studied by considering unladen, fully-laden, and overloaded conditions. It was found that the dynamic load during acceleration, quantified using a dispersion index, was significantly high for the front axle under all the three loading conditions. The corresponding dispersion index for the rear axle was still significant, although lower than that of the front axle.
