With the development of internet of vehicles technology, the application of connected automated vehicle (CAV) is becoming an inevitable trend. In this paper, the full velocity difference (FVD) model and cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) model is respectively used to describe the behaviour of human-driving vehicles (HDVs) and CAVs. And a modified CTH rule based CACC model is applied to describe the behaviour of vehicle platoon. First, a mixed traffic flow scene which contains CAVs, HDVs, and CAV platoons is established. Then, the stability conditions analysis model with vehicle platoon is derived. Finally, a simulation experiment is implemented to find out the effect of connected automated vehicle platoon on mixed traffic flow. The results of simulation indicate that the CAV platoon can improve the road capacity of mixed traffic flow compared with normal mixed traffic flow.
