In some Japanese urban motorway system, there exist two kinds of S letter shape curve (S curve) sections at where traffic accidents often occurred and a few traffic accidents occurred. Both kinds of S curve sections, however, are almost the same geometric features. Therefore, authors thought that the factors affected the causes of traffic accidents, which occurred such S curve sections, might be not only geometric features but also some other factors such as drivers' mental and/or physiological factors, landscape factors along S curve sections, and so on. Running car tests were conducted in some S curve sections of the actual urban motorway. The purpose of this running car test was to measure speed of a vehicle, steering wheel operation, eye movement and heartbeat of a driver, and so on in an S curve section passage. A comparative analysis was done to explain difference in the driving behavior in two kinds of S curve section passage, where traffic accidents often occurred and not.
