The need to provide efficient transport services has led to the implementation of transit signal priority in many urban cities to reduce the delay of buses and VIP vehicles. This paper presents an attempt of the Transit Signal Priority in urban arterial and analyzes its impact. The chosen network is designed to contain 8 OD pairs and 4 intersections (three of which are signalized). First, single-path travel assignment method is applied to calculate the ODs based on the collected traffic flow data. Second, the network is rebuilt in Paramics by using the GIS information obtained from Google Earth. Third, the Analytic Hierarchy Process is introduced to set priority weight of four kinds of vehicles according to the traffic management policy. Finally, the special control strategy is developed to reduce the overall delay. The simulation results indicate that with the priority signal control plan adopted, both the delay of the buses and the VIP vehicles and the delay of all the vehicles can be decreased. The results confirm the potential benefits of priority signal control.
