The popular use of traffic detectors makes it fairly easy to collect abundant data. However, how to utilize these data effectively to analyze traffic conditions becomes an urgent problem. In this article, On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) is applied to traffic information system to solve this problem. As the core of OLAP, a multidimensional data model for traffic conditions analysis is designed, which can deal with numerous data from different viewpoints and granularities. Fundamental procedures of establishing the model are demonstrated and traffic parameters are summarized. The application of the model to "Shenzhen urban transportation simulation system" shows well applicability for traffic condition analysis.
