This paper presents an improved inventory model for deteriorating items with time-varying demand and partial backlogging. A three-parameter Weibull distribution is used to represent the distribution of time to deterioration. This distribution is suitable for items with any initial value of the rate of deterioration and also for items which start deteriorating only after a certain period of time. The theory for finding the optimal solution of the problem is developed. A numerical example is taken to illustrate the solution procedure.
