The semi-active suspension system is an effective method to improve riding comfortable. This paper considers variable structure control method with the simplified model for the design of a semi-active suspension system. Firstly, the dynamic model of a vehicle suspension system is built. Secondly, the damp controller with variable structure control method is designed based on that model. Then, the practical dynamic model is built using ADAMS/rail, and the model of the controller is obtained using Matlab/simulink Finally, the vibration data of car body is obtained by co-simulation using ADAMS and Matlab. The result shows that the VSS (variable structure sliding mode control) controller can reduce the amplitude of car body vertical displacement and acceleration effectively.
