On-ramp control is one of the most effective measures to combat traffic congestion of urban freeway. The characteristics of traffic flow and the model of on-ramp control are analyzed, and a fuzzy control measure is put forward, which takes traffic conditions of neighborhood on-ramp into account. Three fuzzy variables including density of one freeway section, the density and queue of the upstream section are taken as inputs, and 13 rules is established. The control system is simulated in MATLAB software, and the result indicates that the fuzzy controller is effective to the on-ramp control.
