In order to study the car-following behavior of different vehicles, a metro-count 5600 data collection system was employed to collect traffic flow data such as speed, time headways, etc. Vehicles were classified into two types, including Car and Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). Characteristics of time headways and following distances of different car-following patterns were statistically analyzed and a capacity model was established to analyze the influence of speed and proportions of different vehicles on the capacity of mixed traffic flow composed of different vehicles. The result indicated that the average time headways of Car-Car and Car-HGV patterns were about 0.5s less than that of HGV-Car and HGV-HGV patterns. At 30–70km/h, time headways of the four car-following patterns maintained at 4.50±0.50s stably and the linear fitting equations of following distances showed good fitting. The capacity of mixed traffic flows decreased with the increase of speed and car proportion.
