The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in cooperation with Headquarters Air Combat Command and the 99th Civil Engineering Group, Nevada Test Ranges has developed a robotics platform capable of carrying a suite of munitions disposal and range maintenance tools. The purpose of this paper is to outline the development and testing of the system and advocate continued research into the automation of UXO clearance, range maintenance, remediation and force protection. The All-purpose Remote Transport System (ARTS) consists of a low cost survivable platform capable of remote operations at distances of up to three miles. Two versions of this system have been fielded: one for active range clearance and one for force protection.
