A brief description of the overall energy consumption (including the amount and composition) of a high-speed maglev transportation system is presented. The example used in this paper is the Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line. The composition of the braking energy is comprehensively analyzed. The vehicle's kinetic energy, work of resistance, and the loss of the cable resistance are calculated. The braking resistor loss is obtained by measurements on site. The conclusion has important reference value for the utilization of braking energy, as well as for guiding economic operations.
