Intersection bus lanes have an important impact on both vehicle and passenger delay. By establishing a mathematical and traffic simulation model this study analyzes vehicle total delay, vehicle average delay, passenger total delay, and passenger average delay under different bus lane settings at a particular intersection. In order to compare the impact of different bus lane settings, VISSIM is applied to simulate the traffic flow based on the traffic investigation data of the intersection at Wuyi Avenue, Chaoyang Road and Xiaoyang Road in Changsha China. The simulation results show that buses get better driving priority in terms of both time and space, and that vehicle delay and passenger delay of mixed vehicle and bus also decrease when a bus lane and indented bus priority approach are adopted at the intersection. This experiment also provides a theoretical foundation for setting reasonable bus lanes and improving the traffic situation.
