Changsha Maglev Express Line, connecting Changsha South Railway Station with Changsha Huanghua International Airport, started trial operations in May 2016. We conducted an investigation on passengers departing from Changsha Huanghua Airport in 2015, while the maglev line was under construction. In the study, information of transport modes choices on how to access the airport and the time costs without maglev was collected. We also investigated passengers about their willingness to take maglev in the future. Based on the survey results, we estimated the possibility of passengers’ transferring to maglev for the landside transportation. Changsha Maglev has started its commercial operation since May 2016. By analyzing its operation and service condition, we evaluated the impact of Maglev Express Line on the land-side transportation of Changsha Huanghua International Airport. The outcome of the study can provide valuable reference to other urban maglev projects planned in the future.
