Urban characteristics are the basic factors that affect the development strategy and project layout of comprehensive urban transportation. This paper introduces the strategic planning path of a comprehensive urban transportation system based on urban characteristics. It analyzes urban characteristics of Wuhan, including natural geographical characteristics, social characteristics and economic characteristics, putting forth an urban strategic mission of Wuhan, strategic planning position of comprehensive transportation system of Wuhan, and planning principles, methods and guarantee measures to realize comprehensive transportation strategic positioning of Wuhan. Finally, the concrete project layout planning and corresponding guarantee system of comprehensive transportation system construction in Wuhan are discussed. This paper presents a strategic planning path of comprehensive transportation based on urban characteristics from refined urban characteristics, task and situation analysis, strategic aim and position, planning and guarantee strategy to planning scheme.
