In order to reduce the rate of roadside accident and help engineers make an informed decision or take the most effective measures in highway roadside safety improvement program, the authors put forward the roadside safety protection technology system (RSPTS) that suited to the actual situation to deal with the typical roadside safety problems appearing in China. RSPTS is built in accordance with a priority of active guidance, appropriate protection and timely security, including the technologies to prevent vehicles from leaving the road out of the lane (active guidance technology), to reduce the collision and rollover accident rate, and to alleviate the severity of roadside accidents. The potential benefit of this study is to reduce the roadside accident rate, in particular to alleviate the severity of the serious traffic accidents which can result in many injuries and deaths.
