Short-term memory (STM) is a memory retention characteristic of drivers after recognition of traffic signs. Reasonable use of STM can greatly improve the recognition and memory of traffic signs during driving. Based on the analysis of drivers’ short-term memory characteristics, combined with the setting method of traffic sign height under the conditions of horizontal road surface and long downhill road condition, this paper studies the setting of sign height, front distance, and repetitive distance of auxiliary deceleration lane, and then reduces the potential traffic accidents caused by drivers’ forgetting of traffic information. Therefore, it is possible to improve the utilization of auxiliary deceleration lanes.
