The construction of the guideway for the Heathrow Airport pilot PRT system is complete and the opportunity has been taken to re-assess some of the critical design decisions. The objective of the designers has been to develop a family of modular elements which can be manufactured in a factory, installed using simple and fast construction methods, and which link to provide a visually coherent linear feature. As this is the first application of PRT the design decisions will also inform subsequent design codes or standards and for this reason there is value in reassessing some design outcomes.
