Different from new development, urban renewal updates an area that already features buildings and traffic facilities; this inevitably impacts traffic systems, and must be effectively managed. Traffic impact analysis is an important aspect of urban planning and construction management, but it faces shortcomings when applied to urban renewal. This study improves the method of traffic impact analysis by proposing an integrated analysis method to evaluate the traffic impact of the four stages: the pre-inspection in planning, stage-pre assessment in location, stage-evaluation in construction, and stage-post evaluation after construction stage. The impact analysis content at each stage are given. Finally, the suitable starting threshold setting method of traffic impact analysis for urban renewal is proposed. The purpose is to systematically control the traffic impact of urban renewal so as to reduce the negative impact and optimize the urban space as well as alleviate the traffic congestion.
