In order to calculate the settlement of foundation accurately, an undisturbed-soil modified secant modulus method was putted forward on the basis of the existing research results. The theory of traditional secant modulus method was modified by putting forward the concept of modification factor α . The value of α is decided by the gravity stress and original secant modulus of the soil, and it decreases with depth increasing for the simply even soil foundation. The layer wise summation method was used to compute the settlement of foundation according to actual project. Through the comparison of the results obtained from e - p curve method, the traditional secant modulus method and the modified secant modulus method, the results gained by the modified secant modulus method close to the observed results of an undisturbed-soil soft foundation. This indicates that the modified secant modulus method is reliable.
