Paul W. Conley Container Terminal is located in Boston, Massachusetts along the west side of the Boston Harbor at the mouth of the Boston Inner Harbor. The terminal comprises approximately 40.5 hectares (100 acres) of property with 610 meters (2000 feet) of marginal wharf. The terminal currently operates with a mix of Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes (RTG cranes), Fork Lift / Top Pick Loaders (FLT), and wheeled storage configurations. The facility is owned and operated by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport). Prior to the Massport initiated Marine Terminal Optimization Program, the Paul W. Conley terminal was operated by the John T. Clark Company. In 1998, Massport took over terminal operations from Clark and the terminal was operated as an all-wheeled container yard, having all of the containers mounted on chassis within the storage yard, with a homegrown terminal operating system. With the Optimization Program, container service was consolidated into Conley Terminal from the Moran Terminal, also operated by Massport. Moran Terminal was a grounded operation, placing the containers directly on the ground or within stacks in the storage yard, and utilized a unique terminal operating system developed for Massport. With the consolidation of the terminals, the operating system from Moran Terminal was transferred to Conley Terminal and updated for wheeled operations.
