An urban expressway traffic incident detection system is designed from two modules, an incident detection module and an incident alarm module. In the incident detection module, based on the variation of traffic flow parameters (velocity, volume and occupancy) which upstream and downstream have before and after traffic incidents happened, the model of wavelet analysis-neural network is built using the data that fused upstream and downstream traffic flow parameters. In the incident alarm module, based on the visualization characteristics of LabVIEW, the incident alarming module is designed. The modules are unified with the Script Node, which is the interface between LabVIEW and Matlab. Then, a system is developed and verified under a simple scenario with the stimulation traffic flow data acquired from VISSIM.
