This paper is aimed to review the strategic position for sustainability of the Bulgarian transport system and the related opportunities for sustainable organizational development. Organizational sustainability is a critical concern for the Bulgarian transport sector, which can be determined as unbalanced given the high relative shares of the work performed and energy consumption by the road transport. The efforts of several governments to design and implement competitive strategies and practices, and leverage management vision and leadership follow the European direction of sustainable development, aiming to lead to a positive cumulative effect on a globalscale.
