The article deals with the main databases ORACLE and PostgreSQL. The experience of their application in various fields is analyzed. The main user criteria are illustrated, according to which it is desirable to select and use these databases. It is shown that ORACLE is preferable to use for complex, unique, as a rule, corporate control systems, where high reliability and efficiency are required, and PostgreSQL will find its place for many small and medium-sized control systems with a small computing resource, compatible with other databases, where required. open source.
