Sixteen thermionic converters were fabricated for the Engine Ground Demonstration (EGD) tests of the Integrated Solar Upper Stage (ISUS). EGD power generation tests mapped the array performance under simulated semi-synchronous orbit conditions. Results from these tests have been reported elsewhere. This paper describes converter development and the manufacturing techniques used to ensure good performance, reliability and minimum unit-to-unit variations.
