This adopted study deals with the treatment of electroplating industry wastewater done by coupled approach of hybrid upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (HUASB) with dual chambered microbial fuel cell (DMFC). A pilot scale anaerobic treatment was conducted in HUASB at an organic loading rates (OLR) varying from 0.28 to 11.38 kg COD/m 3/d over a span of 290 days. Anaerobic reactor attained an optimum condition at an OLR of 6.83 kg COD/m3/d with 88% chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency and 90% biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal efficiency. An uttermost biogas output of 12.5 L/d was acquired. The effluent from the anaerobic treatment was further treated through DMFC technology. At the optimized conditions, DMFC treatment was achieved COD andBOD removal efficiency of 85% and 89%, respectively. In DMFC treatment of the electroplating industry wastewater the pinnacle voltageof 590 mV and equivalent power density of 98mW/m2 was attained. For the coupled treatment system a peak COD removal efficiency of 98% and BOD removal efficiency of 99% was obtained.
