The article presents the analysis of accidents on Russian roads over a seventeen-year period. The study is relevant, since injury rate in road accidents is classified by the World Health Organization as the main cause of death. It was determined that against the background of a decrease in the absolute number of accidents, the severity of their consequences remains at a high level. The main cause of road traffic accidents was identified: non-compliance with road traffic regulations by drivers of vehicles. The author concludes that the implementation of intelligent technologies in transportation, such as autonomous cars, is necessary to significantly reduce injury rate on the roads. But safe and effective use of autonomous vehicles is only possible if there is a high level of trust in technological innovation on the part of consumers. The author indicates the values of the index of approval of this technology by the citizens of the top 10 countries. The article focuses on the fact that with the active implementation of digital technologies, their use is impossible without the preparation of an appropriate legal framework.
