The article presents the results of the authors’ research on the topic of transport labor productivity management with the help of production functions apparatus. By selecting the Cobb-Douglas production function, the authors attempt to select model output and explanatory factors (variables) for labor productivity management purposes. The ratio of the volume of work to the payroll (“payroll productivity”) was proposed as the resultant indicator, and “payroll capital/labor ratio” was proposed as the variable. The authors give variants of interpretation of the proposed model, demonstrating the possibility of its use for the aggregate assessment of economic policy options in transport, in particular, the model will be useful in assessing the ratio of the materialized (capital factor) and “living” labor, the choice of their optimal ratio, that is, when making decisions about the replacement of production factors (labor by capital or vice versa). To substantiate the modeling results, the authors indicate the results of model calculations performed on the basis of official statistics data. Analysis of the results showed that the effect of the volume of fixed assets on the reduced transport work is more than 2 times greater than the influence of “living” labor.
