The paper presents a short review of active and passive lift force augmentation concepts for horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWTs). The few models presented were analyzed using CFD to determine their potential in terms of improved performance of HAWTs. There will also be presented and computational aspects related to modeling active and passive control systems. Numerical simulations are based on RANS (Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes) equations model supplemented with a suitable turbulence model; in our case turbulence models used were k - ω and k - ω SST.
