Volume 3 in the AIAA Aerospace Assessment Series contains the edited proceedings of the Workshop Conference Potential Applications of Aerospace Technology in the Marine Transport Industry, held in Williamsburg, Virginia, November 29-December 1, 1979. The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) joined together at this Conference to compare aerospace technology with maritime technical problems in order to identify aerospace technology which might present economically acceptable solutions to the maritime industry. The Conference was supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the United States Coast Guard. These proceedings record the information generated by the 135 Conference participants whose names appear in the Appendix. The book was reviewed by all of the Conference participants, and was approved for publication by the Conference Steering Committee. It was hoped that the conclusions, recommendations, and technical information presented in this document would assist the effective transfer of appropriate aerospace technology to the maritime industry in a timely manner.
