Description The present volume contains a selection of recent studies dealing with outer planet entry heating and protection systems. It presents the status of these particular areas in the field of thermophysics at the time of its publication. It is, in a true sense, a progress volume that illustrates the most recent advances in these two important areas. The papers were selected from the thermophysics sessions of the AIAA 16th Aerospace Sciences Meeting in Huntsville, AL in January 1978 and the 2nd AIAA/ASME Thermophysics and Heat Transfer Conference in Palo Alto, CA in May 1978. The papers were revised and updated especially for this volume. They are grouped into two chapters, each of which is a distinct and coherent unit--Outer Planet Entry Heating and Thermal Protection Systems.
