The present work proposes an extrapolation methodology that allows the local duplication of a hypersonic boundary layer at off-stagnation locations around a generic flying body, to a flat plate model that could be introduced in a plasma wind tunnel. Such extrapolation is assessed using computational fluid dynamics computations of the Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle (IXV), where both the temperature and species profiles obtained on the IXV are properly reproduced at the end of a flat plate model of 20 cm. The extrapolation is analyzed at several wall coordinates along the wall of the IXV. Results show that flow differences between the flight condition of reference and the model exist, but they do not exceed 1.51% for surface temperature and 13% for boundary-layer thickness.
