Description This volume contains a collection of papers devoted to liquid-metal flows, magnetohydrodynamics, and applications presented at the Fifth Beer-Sheva International Seminar on MHD Flows and Turbulence. The papers of the present MHD volume reflect all the main trends in contemporary liquid-metal MHD research worldwide. The most meaningful achievement in the area of liquid-metal MHD power generation is that, for the first time, a fully integrated energy-conversion facility was built and put into operation at the Center for MHD Studies of Ben-Gurion University in Israel. The most important advances in the area of metallurgical applications have been made at the Institute de Mecanique of the University of Grenoble in France. The reader will find in this volume a number of articles presenting in detail the results related to the above-mentioned progress in power generation and metallurgical applications.
