This chapter presents a method for identifying the engine‐to‐slip dynamics of motorcycles. It begins with a discussion on the experimental setup for the identification method. Next, the identification method is described in detail. In the next three sections, the identified dynamics are analysed from several points of view: comparison of different motorcycles, effects of road surface sensitivity and velocity sensitivity. Here, the chapter analyses the differences between slip actuation via throttle control and spark advance control. The proposed analysis opens the way to advanced slip controllers, in which two control variables are used in coordination to implement advanced strategies that, for example, can achieve fine traction control without impeding engine efficiency.
