For a practical communication network, the data packets in transmission between vehicles may be dropped out, delayed, or interrupted due to limited communication channels, which has a significant impact on platoon control. Communication interruption is inevitable for large‐scale connected vehicles due to limited communication channels. In this chapter, taking advantage of the finite‐time stabilization technique and sliding‐mode control, the authors give a finite‐time switching control method for heterogeneous platoons with communication latency under communication interruption. Intervehicle communication interruptions are addressed by switching the vehicle control strategy from a cooperative adaptive cruise control scheme to an adaptive cruise control scheme. Using a model control augmentation method, the authors prove analytically the convergence of the heterogeneous platoons with communication latency to an appropriately defined string stable platoons in finite time. Furthermore, the string stability of the platooning system with external disturbances is demonstrated analytically.
