The properties of high temperature fatigue and thermal fatigue of ferritic stainless steels have been investigated. The results obtained are as follows. 1) R429EX (0.009 % C, 0.85 % Si, 14.8 % Cr, 0.48 % Nb), R430LNM (0.011 % C, 0.27 % Si, 17.5 % Cr, 0.37 % Nb, 0.55 % Mo) and R434LN2 (0.006 % C, 0.25 % Si, 19.0 % Cr, 0.35 % Nb, 1.93 % Mo) were increasingly superior in the order of listing in high temperature fatigue property to the conventional steel R409L (0.010 % C, 0.31 % Si, 11.0 % Cr, 0.25 % Ti). This order corresponded to the other in the strength of these steels at the same temperature and the same strain rate in high temperature fatigue tests. 2) Number of cycles to failure in thermal fatigue tests depended on restraint ratio. The fatigue life of R429EX, R430LNM and R434LN2 was longer than that of the conventional steel R409L in the condition of low restraint ratio which was considered to correspond to that in automobile exhaust gas systems.
