A major challenge for the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP), a 3-billion venture to develop six major Nova Scotian natural gas fields, is the prevention and control of corrosion. The various approaches adapted by the multicompany project management team to take on this challenge are discussed. These include the use of various protective coatings like fusion-bond epoxy coating, heavy-weight concrete coating, coal-tar epoxy coating, and thermal sprayed aluminum coating, as well as the use of zinc anode bracelets for cathodic protection.
