Emission factors for military aircraft operations are developed for aircraft engines operating at or near sea level conditions. The engine control schedules for modern jet aircraft engines vary as a function of (engine inlet) air pressure and temperature. An effect of air density, estimates of aircraft engine emissions using emission factors developed for sea level are likely to be erroneous and high for low airspeed aircraft engine operation on bases or facilities located at higher altitudes. For Hill AFB, effect of changes in altitude and temperature on emission factors for gas turbine engines in aircraft appears to have resulted in a significant overestimate of air emissions.
