The lifecycle energy use and emissions from trucks are compared using the Fisher-Tropsch diesel fuel and advanced fuel-efficient engines. Heavy-duty, Class S tractor-semitrailer combinations are considered for the analysis. Argonne's Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model is used to generate per-vehicle fuel cycle impacts. Energy use and emissions for materials manufacturing and vehicle disposal are estimated by means of materials information from Argonne studies.
