This paper discusses the development of an expert system that will be used for the detailed design of robot grippers for demoulding of polyurethane (PU) foam parts. Demoulding is a handling process for taking the finished part out of the mould. The structure of a hybrid expert system is proposed. A method developed for the classification of PU foam parts is described. PU foam parts of a vehicle seat manufacturer were analyzed.
