The newly developed aluminum automotive (AA7033) alloy demonstrates general corrosion and stress corrosion properties that are nearly equal to those of 6061-T6 and superior to those of 2014-T6. In addition, it is 50% stronger than 6061-T6, with superior fatigue performance in many loading situations. The alloy also has fracture toughness as much as twice that of 6061-T6 or 2014-T6. Tight control over alloy chemistry and processing typically results in 7033 products that provide consistent microstructural grain sizes. AA7033-O may also be cold impacted or hot forged, with forging behavior similar to that of 6061-O.
